Mitie is a leading strategic outsourcing and energy services company. It provides infrastructure consultancy, facilities management, property management, energy and healthcare services. Mitie has a close working relationship with Pinsent Masons and has previously instructed the firm on a number of matters. Since 2018, Mitie has required support from Vario on two separate occasions to cover different situations.
In January 2018, a significant amount of workload meant that Mitie turned to Vario to find an employment lawyer. A suitable Vario was identified, presented to Mitie, interviewed and subsequently joined. The Vario worked for three days per week, splitting time between home and the office. This assignment continued until September 2018; and was then extended on an ad-hoc basis. Both Mitie and the Vario enjoyed working together and were keen to continue the relationship.
Following on from this successful appointment, Mitie turned to Vario for support for a particularly involved and strategic project. Due to Mitie’s long-standing relationship with Pinsent Masons and nature of the project, it was determined that the ideal individual was actually someone with previous knowledge of the firm. A former Pinsent Masons employee, with the right skills and experience was identified and fast-tracked through the stringent Vario assessment process. The Vario was subsequently extended twice to closer to 18 months from the initial 6 months contract.
In both situations, Vario and Mitie have worked closely together to build the right solution for the individual need:
Assignment 1: The Vario on assignment has now chosen to work in an even more flexible manner. This arrangement is working for Mitie, who are able to utilise the services of a lawyer who understands their culture and challenges when they require additional support. For the Vario, they enjoy working in a much more ad-hoc manner, allowing them time off to pursue other activities.
Assignment 2: The Vario on this assignment played a significant role on a large and complex project. They have been instrumental in ensuring that the project ran on time and to budget. Furthermore, the fact that Vario knows Pinsent Masons has been advantageous, as she has helped Mitie to manage the in-house/external advice relationship on a lengthy and challenging project.
