Managing Director of Vario
Matthew is responsible for the strategic direction, management and growth of Vario. He has significant experience in the professional services sector, having previously worked internationally for a global management consulting organisation, specialising in major business process outsourcing (BPO) projects. Matthew is passionate about how the Vario approach solves real business problems for some of the world’s leading organisations, and offers alternative working patterns to talented legal professionals. Matthew enjoys the humbling experience of being beaten at golf by his children on a Saturday afternoon at the local club!
Geraldine leads the operational fulfilment for Vario on all client related work. She is heavily involved in the overall strategy and growth plans for Vario and draws upon her extensive experience in our client management team. Having started her career as a contentious construction lawyer, Geraldine has been with Vario for four years, experiencing our clients’ challenges first-hand and supporting our lawyers to deliver world-class client service. In her spare time (not much of that when you’re a mum to three young children) she loves catching up with friends, baking and going to the theatre. She harbours a secret desire to tread the boards herself, so watch this space!
Managing Director of Vario - Asia
Kirsty is responsible for Vario’s operations across Asia and the growth of the business in the region. She possesses significant experience in this field and is a pioneer of alternative legal services in Asia as co-founder of an international ALSP business in the region and was the Managing Director there for over 8 years. Kirsty has lived and worked in Asia for fifteen years and is passionate about the culture and history of the region. To relax, Kirsty enjoys Muay Thai boxing, yoga and both playing and listening to music.
Having spent over a decade working in international legal recruitment, Tom has wide-ranging experience of recruiting lawyers at all levels into private practice and in-house roles. As a member of the all-star Vario Account Management team, Tom meets and interviews candidates, and liaises with clients to deliver the right Vario solution. Tom is dedicated to ensuring that the process of recruiting talented lawyers into Vario assignments is as smooth and supportive as possible. Away from work, Tom loves spending time with his young family and watching the occasional game of rugby (when not ferrying his daughters between dance classes).
Like many of our Account Managers, Ed started his career as a lawyer, qualifying in 2009 and specialising in litigation. He later moved into legal recruitment where he worked for an international PLC placing lawyers at all levels into private practice and in-house roles. As part of the Vario Account Management team, Ed meets and interviews candidates and manages relationships with clients to ensure the process is both efficient and fruitful. Outside of work Ed is a big sports fan and tries to get out on the golf course or tennis court as often as his wife and young children allow.
Head of Oil and Gas
Based in Aberdeen, Roger is responsible globally for developing Vario’s hub and service offering within the Oil & Gas industry, demonstrating our commitment to the Energy sector. A retired Partner and former Head of Pinsent Masons’ Aberdeen office, Roger has over 25 years’ experience in corporate and commercial law, working internationally in the O&G sector. He has acted for UK, foreign oil service companies and independent E&P companies, and also has significant expertise in sector-specific intellectual property matters. Commended in the 2017 and 2018 editions of both Chambers and Legal 500, Roger is also involved in the work of the Law department at the University of Aberdeen and is President of the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen. He is also a trustee for the Robert Gordon University Foundation. Roger is an avid student of Scottish history and loves all manner of outdoor sports – perfect for the Scottish weather!
Head of BD & Marketing
Adam is responsible for the continued growth of Vario through communications, marketing and strategic initiatives. He champions the benefits of the Vario offering to our clients, working closely with all Pinsent Masons departments. Adam has worked in a variety of human resources and business development roles in a combination of start-up organisations, FTSE100 and Fortune 500 companies, both internationally and in the UK. When he’s not spreading the word of Vario, he enjoys walking his dog, live music, cycling and playing his guitar – badly!
Starting her career as an employment lawyer, Kate moved into legal recruitment before joining Vario. Her career to date has given Kate an excellent understanding of both the legal profession and the recruitment sector. This allows her to balance the demands facing both clients and lawyers. Kate employs these skills daily in her role interviewing candidates, liaising with clients and Varios and managing assignments. Kate enjoys getting to know our clients and is keen to fully understand their needs, always striving to ensure the right fit. Having spent three years in the Birmingham office, Kate relocated to our Singapore Office and is responsible for ensuring our clients receive the world-leading service they have come to expect from Pinsent Masons in Singapore and the wider region. Outside of work, Kate is enjoying exploring Singapore with her young family and has grand travel plans across the region!
Lyndsey started out her career in investment banking before graduating from law school and embarking on a career in law. She developed a wealth of experience in domestic and international business development, strategic planning, and client relationship management in a number of Magic Circle law firms, before joining us at Vario. Lyndsey is responsible for the efficient coordination of Vario assignments, management of excellent client relationships, and the ongoing delivery of outstanding service. In her spare time, in between running around after her young son, she loves socialising, cooking and threatening to tick off an extensive bucket list. Items so far include learning Italian, running a marathon and writing a novel!
Lindsy has spent the last ten years working in international recruitment, placing candidates in the banking and legal fields. She has extensive experience in placing paralegals and lawyers in to private practice and in-house positions, on both permanent and contract positions. Lindsy works within the Vario Account Management team in London and is responsible for interviewing candidates, coordinating their assignments and managing relationships with clients. Outside of work Lindsy is a keen foodie, and loves cooking and sampling new restaurants in London. She keeps active by trekking up mountains!
Account Manager - Australia
Paul has been sourcing talent within the Australian legal industry for over 10 years. He has advised major private and public companies on graduate recruitment best practice through to firm mergers. He believes in a consultative approach to fulfilling client needs and is heavily committed to best practice in interviewing candidates and finding the right fit. As a Vario Account Manager in Australia he is responsible for ensuring our clients receive the world-leading service they have come to expect from Pinsent Masons. Outside of work he is a tone-deaf musician (not a good combination) and desperately tries to fit Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training between ferrying his kids around.
Before joining Vario, James spent 20 years working for an international recruitment business, with nine years focused upon placing lawyers into the financial services sector. At Vario, James is responsible for supporting the firm and our clients in assessing, identifying and successfully delivering the best specialist legal resource available. During his career, James has worked on a wide range of specialist, as well as generalist mandates. When outside of the office, James enjoys attending both art and history exhibitions as well as tending to his blooms in his small but perfectly formed garden.
Account Manager - Australia
Greg was an employment and litigation lawyer in New Zealand, before becoming a legal recruiter in Sydney in 2005. The relationships, experience, and networks he has developed in Australia help attract Varios to our hub, and in matching them to specific assignments. His goal is to deliver outcomes that practically meet the needs of both the Vario and our clients. Greg, his partner and Australian Bulldog, Lincoln, live on the Central Coast, just north of Sydney. They all try not to whinge too much about the weather and lack of off-leash dog parks.
Based in the London office, Lucy is responsible for the efficient coordination of Vario assignments, management of excellent client relationships and the ongoing delivery of outstanding service. Prior to moving into Client Development, Lucy worked in the legal field and then specialised in legal recruitment later founding a legal search firm. She graduated from the University of Kent LLB (hons) Law Degree and went on to complete the Bar Professional Training Course at the Inns of Court School of Law. Lucy was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Lincoln’s Inn). Outside of Vario, Lucy is a keen foodie, chef and traveller, partial to a tasting menu and a City trip (if not further afar). She can often be found at a spin or yoga class but, failing that, sipping wine in a London roof top bar!
Gavin has spent the last 14 years working as a lawyer, holding management positions at several national law firms. Specialising in insurance litigation and commercial insurance, Gavin has gained significant experience in process efficiency, client relationship management, and management information & reporting, all of which he brings to his role with Vario leading our stellar Operations team. Outside of work, Gavin enjoys relaxing with his young family and is a passionate snooker player, although he won’t be giving up the day job quite yet…!
Senior Contracts Lawyer
Louise is a commercial contracts lawyer and is responsible for all legal matters affecting Vario. Louise has previously worked as a solicitor both in-house and in private practice, including being a member of the TMT team at Pinsent Masons for a number of years. Louise made the move into freelancing in early 2013 and successfully combined life as a Vario with looking after her three young children. With her children now a bit older and feeling ready for a new challenge, Louise has now joined the Vario team where she is able to draw on her first-hand experience when advising the business. In her spare time Louise enjoys spending time with her family and friends and going for long walks with the family’s Cocker Spaniel.
Senior Account Executive
Prior to Vario, Rhys worked for three years within an international recruitment consultancy. In his role as Senior Account Executive, Rhys supports the Account Managers in coordinating assignments to deliver the right solution for clients and to ensure that our Varios are well looked after. Rhys is dedicated to ensuring the right fit is achieved for both Varios and clients and the assignment process is as smooth as possible. Outside of work, Rhys loves to travel (three more continents to go), cycling and playing the occasional game of tennis.
Claire is responsible for managing our internal and external processes effectively and efficiently. Working closely with the Account Management team, Claire ensures that Varios have all the resources they need in order to be ‘assignment ready’ as quickly as possible. Out of the office, Claire enjoys catching up with friends, swimming and reading, when her young daughter’s schedule allows the time.
Paul spent several years working in legal private practice for top firms in Birmingham before making the transition to legal recruitment. Since then, he has specialised in dealing with multi-discipline private practice recruitment across a wide range of firms. As an Account Executive, Paul is responsible for the recruitment of Varios into both Pinsent Masons and their clients, with a particular focus on the Banking and Financial Services sector. Outside of the office, Paul enjoys socialising with friends, binging on Netflix and reading.
Maha worked for several years as a legal executive in house before a stint in legal and business journalism and then a career in recruitment. She has extensive experience within the APAC region through her various roles within the legal sector. As a legal executive, she covered Singapore, Malaysia and India while as a journalist, she wrote about highlight deals in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and Singapore. With her broad exposure to key players within the region, she started her recruiting career, headhunting from within APAC, the UK and New York. She has lived and worked in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. Maha is now based in Singapore as a Vario Account Executive supporting the Account Managers in the APAC. Outside of work, Maha’s travelling spirit takes over, always looking online for the next holiday destination, and when she’s not able to travel, she bakes cupcakes to de-stress.
After graduating in Law, Keely has spent the last 10 years building her career in recruitment before finally joining Vario, where the two facets of her experience now merge into one. Within the Vario team, Keely is responsible for attracting the best and brightest legal professionals into the Vario community, working closely with the Account Management team to understand the skills and experience that our clients are asking for. In her spare time, Keely practices in the kitchen for the next series of Great British Bake Off, and is also an avid bookworm and movie buff.
Anwen has spent the past four and a half years working in recruitment, initially as a Researcher within a recruitment firm before moving in-house as a Recruitment Partner for a leading hospitality business. Her recruitment experience spans across multiple functions, disciplines and sectors within both the private and public sectors. As an Account Executive for Vario, Anwen is responsible for the identification, communication and placement of Varios into both Pinsent Masons and their Clients, ensuring the process runs smoothly and efficiently. Outside of work, Anwen likes to spend her time cooking, reading and planning her next holiday!
Dan graduated in law and before gaining a number of years’ experience as a legal recruiter, overseeing the recruitment of fee-earners at all levels into private practice and industry. Focusing predominantly on the oil and gas sector, Dan supports the account management team in providing a smooth and efficient service to both clients and Varios. Outside of work Dan enjoys reading and is also a big sports fan.
Client Development Executive
Kwan has worked in marketing departments of various organisation in different sectors, helping to deliver marketing plans to promote their organisations and services effectively. He now works in the Vario team to help drive awareness and reputation of the service through its online and offline channels. In his spare time, Kwan enjoys practicing Kung Fu and polishing his car whenever the weather permits!
Talent Engagement Executive
Uma is responsible for arranging Vario interviews and for ensuring that both internal and external Vario assignments are set up effectively. In addition, Uma provides support for all aspects of the Vario selection process and creates biographies for new Varios. In her spare time, Uma is a freelance photographer and has an impressive portfolio.
Joe has worked for Pinsent Masons over 15 years, having started her career in the Business Development team, moving to the Vario team in 2014 as Database Administrator working with the Operations team. Joe is now an Operations Executive who works closely with our Account Managers to ensure all Varios are compliant and all on boarding documentation is complete and up-to-date. She also creates biographies for our new Varios and manages the Vario database ensuring all records are maintained and accurate. Out of office activities include: firstly nurturing family, followed by social occasions, many holidays, boot-camp, yoga, bike-riding and walking the family dog, ‘Bella’.
Kuli manages the pre-offer application process, ensuring that candidates’ first initial interactions with Vario go as smooth as possible and doing her best to provide them with an excellent candidate experience; as well as managing stakeholder expectations. Kuli is responsible for arranging interviews both in the UK and globally and for ensuring that both internal and external Vario assignments are set up effectively. Outside of work, Kuli is a keen gym enthusiast, social butterfly and when she isn’t breaking a sweat; she is off booking her next travel destination or planning a party!
Katy is a Vario Team Assistant based in Birmingham. Katy spent 15 years working in Pinsent Masons’ Finance department, before joining the Vario team in 2015. Her role involves ensuring our Varios have the relevant equipment, logins and operational details when starting on a new assignment. Katy also looks after the financial side of Vario which includes recording Vario time and dealing with both Vario and client invoicing. Out of the office Katy helps run a dog training club and has a female German Shepherd which she is training to compete.
Personal Assistant to Director of Vario
Ros has dual responsibilities within Vario; the day-to-day management of the Director of Vario’s intensive schedule alongside her work as Vario coordinator where she assists with organising diaries, events and meetings.
Ros has extensive experience as a PA in the legal profession at several top 100 law firms, and recently joined the Vario team after working in the central management team at Pinsent Masons. Ros is an avid traveller and when not organising everyone in Vario, can be found in the most exotic places possible!
Sohaib is our first ever Vario Apprentice. He is responsible for processing new applications, arranging Psychometric testing and also provides support for all aspects of the Vario Selection process. He also works closely with other sectors of the Pinsent Masons team such as Finance and Marketing. In his spare time, Sohaib is into sports and gaming.
